The Google Algorithim has been indexing content faster than ever before. The old days of waiting 6 weeks for your page to be indexed has long gone, with new blog posts being indexed in less than an hour.
This is great news, but it throws into question one of Google’s key alogirthim elements, which is linking sites. If a site is listed in the directory so rapidly, it won’t have a chance to attain those links. So the updated Google alogorthim is artificially weighting fresher content higher than older content with more links.
This is good news for blogs with relevant content as they will be able to gaina greater authority, quicker than before. The challenge, however, is working with sits with slower updates to compete with this fresh stream of content.
Introducing a site blog is a great way to boost the freshness of content which can be used to supplement the existing and more permanent content of the website. With the right structure, links, and editorial structure a blog can not only rapidly boost the number of pages on a site [and resultantly the number of potential entry points] but also, in light of this Google algorithm update, it can also be used to boost the number of references to key terms [where relevant within content] which in turn can be used to transport visitors to the permanent areas of the site.
