Facebook launch first UK Ad campaigns exclusively through Microsoft.

Following  up on Andrew’s post, Facebook will now be running UK advertisement deals through the Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions sales team. The first to sign up for the campaigns includes Orange, Schwarzkopf, The Carphone Warehouse and Gumtree.

Microsoft secured the rights along with buying a 1.6% stake in Facebook and for the past week they have been brokering deals with agencies and advertisers. Previously there have only been a handful of campaigns in the UK brokered through the social networks US sales team, and now in the future Microsoft are expected to build on their relationship with Facebook that will include other areas like mobile advertising and embedding Microsoft search onto the site.

Head of UK marketing at Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions Alex Marks said that once the deal was announced their has been a huge response from firms wanting to advertise on Facebook, however their has been no plans to hire a dedicated team to sell on Facebook but the headcount is likely to increase. He also denied that Microsoft dominant communication tools will not be affected.

Facebook have been busy putting a UK sales team in place and most appointments are expected to start in January after notice periods have been worked. Chandlee’s ex- colleagues Stephen Haines, previously head of agency strategy at Yahoo!, and Jon Harvey, ex-group head at Yahoo!, are expected to start next year.
